Lake Powell Trifecta

We’ve explained the Rainbow Club in a previous post. At every race we hold we designate an official race hike. Accept the challenge and complete the hike and you receive 50% OFF the next year’s race registration. We want these “clubs” to be challenging, but doable. These are the iconic hikes at each of our race locations. At Zion, it is Angels Landing. You just have to do it! At Lake Powell it is Rainbow Bridge. If you can go to Rainbow Bridge, GO TO RAINBOW BRIDGE.

Now, all that being said, we are trying something new at Lake Powell in addition to the official race hike. We are happy to introduce the Lake Powell Trifecta.

The Lake Powell Trifecta is another challenge to encourage our runners to get out and enjoy Lake Powell. Think of it as a scavenger hunt. There are three mini activities you need to complete in order to qualify. At each of these you need to take your picture with your finisher medal and bib visible (just like the Rainbow Club).

We hope this will be an alternative to the Rainbow Bridge hike (or a great addition) and be more “family-friendly”.

So, that’s three separate pictures: Horseshoe Bend, Swim in the lake, and visit the dam.

1) Horseshoe Bend – Horseshoe Bend is a breathtaking overlook at the Colorado River flowing from Lake Powell towards the Grand Canyon. It is a short drive outside of Page (just over 4 miles south) and just a 3/4 mile hike to the overlook! It is such a great thing to see. Seriously, if you come all the way to Lake Powell and don’t go see it, it would be a real waste.

2) Swim in the lake – this one is simple. Jump in the lake. Just go for a swim! Go cool off! The water is still warm this time of year, so go enjoy it. Remember, your bib and finisher medal need to be visible in the picture! Don’t worry, the bibs are water proof. :)

3) Visit The Dam – Take a dam picture. We recommend the dam tour, but even if you don’t take the tour you should go visit the dam! This picture needs to be of you on the dam.

So, that’s it! Horseshoe Bend, Swim, Dam, done. Don’t forget, you need to send us a picture of you with your finisher medal and bib clearly visible at each of these “locations”. Complete the Lake Powell Trifecta and not only will you have a lot of fun, but you will get 20% OFF next year’s race entry.

Any questions? What do you think of the Trifecta challenge?
