This video was a lot of fun to make. I drove through Marble Canyon in the middle of the night. It was quiet, still, and a full moon hung over head. I parked just passed the bridge and walked along the bridge alone. Only one car passed the bridge while I was on it. I stared over the bridge in amazement. It was eerie. I couldn’t put my finger on it. I was standing at the mouth of something old, mysterious, and enormous. I felt very small and alone. It was also very peaceful.
I got to Tusayan, slept for 2 hours and then got up to get out to Yaki Point early enough to catch the sunrise. The next day was spent exploring the Grand Canyon, shooting some video, etc. It was a short but great trip.
The road the two runners are running on in this video is actually the course. Now the money shot is just a little misleading. I wanted to convey the feeling that the runners, though running through the forest, were so close to the rim. Though there are no views of the rim from our course, the greatness of the Grand Canyon was just outside where they were running, hidden by the trees. Our course never gets that close to the rim, though it was necessary to have the runners run that close to get the shot I wanted. Sorry if it is in anyway misleading, but it was such a good shot and really captured the feeling and emotion I wanted to convey.
We’ve got about 200 hundred spots left before this race is SOLD OUT. Don’t wait to register!
