As we announced yesterday, we’re retiring the Angels Club due to safety and trail preservation issues. However, in addition to the Observation Club, this year we’re introducing two new club hikes! The first one is the Double Arch Club!
The hike along the Taylor Creek Trail to Double Arch Alcove is gorgeous and historic. Located about two miles past the Kolob Canyon entrance of Zion National Park, the trail head will take you into a narrow box canyon to the extremely photogenic alcove. As you criss cross along Taylor Creek, you will also pass Larson Cabin and Fife Cabin, two homesteads from the 1930’s. The hike is about 5 miles roundtrip, and will take about 4 hours to hike there and back.
This hike will be most convenient for those who have to head north after the race, or who just want to spend time in Kolob Canyon after the race (which you should!). To get to the trailhead from Springdale, you’ll get on highway 9 towards La Verkin, then jump on highway 17 through Toquerville. Then you’ll hop on the 15 N towards Cedar City and take exit 40 for Kolob Canyon. The trailhead is about two miles in from the park entrance!
The same rules and prizes will apply as the Observation Club. Any runner who sends us a picture of themselves from Double Arch Alcove within 72 hours of the end of the race which includes:
1. A clear view of your face
2. Your bib with bib numbers clearly visible
3. Your finisher medal in plain view
4. A clear background that shows you actually completed the hike
will join the Double Arch Club and forever be immortalized on our website. We will post all those pictures on our website along with the runner’s name and city. Additionally, those runners will get 50% OFF the next year’s registration.
