We’re announcing dates for the 2017 Zion Half Marathon today, but that’s not all. For one year only, we’ll be switching things up and moving to the East Side of the park!
RACE DAY: April 1, 2017
REGISTRATION OPENS: May 20, 2016
Our 2017 course is going to be a partial trail run! Starting at the Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort, the course will follow N Fork County Road until it hops off at mile 5. At this point we’re going to be on trail for pretty much the rest of the race. We’ll cross highway 9 at about mile 7, and then head west towards the park. We’ll finish at the east entrance with amazing views of Zion.
Where should I stay? We recommend Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort (right at the start line), Zion Mountain Lodge, or Zion RV and Campground (right at the finish line). Basically anything in the Zion Mountain area. Learn more on our travel page.
Why move the course? Major reconstruction will be taking place this year on Highway 9 at the south entrance where we normally run our race. Plus, this is a cool way to explore other options if we ever need to move our event. We don’t anticipate this being a permanent move. Next year we’ll be back in Springdale as per usual.
We’re excited about this coming year. Race day will be a few weeks later than normal. The race will be on April 1, 2017. Registration for the race will open Friday, May 20, 2016! Mark your calendars!
Is there an elevation chart you can share? Curious what the gain/loss is along the route.
This actually makes me VERY excited! I can’t do long runs on pavement anymore, it kills my knees. I am highly considering this course because it’s mostly trail.
