We’re Merging Our Facebook Pages

When we first "opened our doors" in 2012 we only had a couple of races so we built a separate Facebook fan page for each one. It made sense at the time.

But as we've grown and added events this approach has made it increasingly difficult for our "fans" to keep up with everything. (Nobody wants to have to follow a dozen pages just to know what's going on.) As you can imagine it's also pretty hard for us to be as engaging and responsive as we'd like to be.

So, we've decided to simplify things a bit and merge our individual race pages into one unified Vacation Races page. Cool right?

This kind of thing usually raises some questions. Here are a few we anticipate you'll want to know.

What do I need to do?
Nothing really. Most people probably won't notice any change but just in case you do, we don't want you to worry (you super-observant person you).

Do I need to follow a different page?
No. Facebook will handle this almost invisibly. As soon as the pages are merged links to the old pages will take you to the main page. So for example if you're following the "Zion Half Marathon" page right now you'll soon be following "Vacation Races" instead.

Will I see the same content?
Kind of. The plan is that you'll see more "Hey look at this epic sunrise at Glacier!" type of stuff and less "Hey there's a price jump tomorrow" type of stuff (but when there is a price jump you won't have to track down that one particular race page to see it 👍🏻).

Where will I find last-minute race details?
These will be posted within individual Facebook Event pages and not to the main page any more. We also work hard to make sure we post critical updates to our blog, Instagram, and by SMS (if it's a critical notification for registrants within 24 hours of race day). We'll avoid filling up your Facebook newsfeed with these.

What are you talking about?
If all this talk of Pages and Events is confusing, don't worry you're not alone. That's why we're simplifying. 😄 Just relax and go for a run. In the future you'll see more posts from "Vacation Races" and fewer posts from specific races like "Everglades Half Marathon".

When will this happen?
We'll start on some less-active pages immediately and merge the others over the course of the next month or two.
