Happy New Year, Vacation Racers!
It’s that time of year again where everyone is out purchasing a new day planner where we can write down our goals and resolutions for the new year, map out our training schedules and pencil in our meetings. Everyone is motivated, inspired and ready to start checking boxes off their to-do lists. But, let’s be honest, some of us have probably already tripped-up with a few of our resolutions. That’s just how it goes, and we understand! Staying on track isn’t always easy.
But we’re here for support! We want to help you achieve those running and fitness goals this year, so we’ve come up with a few ideas that might help kickstart your plan!
Register for a race
We host meticulously organized half marathons, ultra marathons, and trail running festivals at some of the world’s most breathtaking locations! That may sound self-promoting, but by registering for a race, it puts a date on your calendar and gives you something to work toward. We all know how a hard deadline provides extra motivation to get out there and run! No one wants to run 13.1 miles ill-prepared, and we don’t recommend trying to run 50 or 60 miles without properly training beforehand. And with our courses, you can rest assured that the scenery during your race will make all that training worth it.
Treat yourself to new athletic wear, shoes or running gear
I don’t know about you, but nothing gets me more motivated to run like the chance to rock that new outfit or don some new gear! New hydration belt? Better get outside, test it out and show that thing off. New pair of running shorts? Better put those on and head to the gym. Plus, if you look good, you feel good, right? And, looking good and feeling good helps build confidence. So what we’re saying is, go shopping. It’s good for the soul.
Write down your plan
You’ve heard it before and we’re simply telling you again – writing it down makes it more real and it also helps you file it away in that “things to remember” folder in your brain. Write down your goal, and your plan to achieve it and put it somewhere you can see it every day. This will also serve as a gentle reminder and help keep you on track! If you want to take it a step further, write it as a post on social media and tell your family and friends. This will not only serve as a reminder, but it will also keep you accountable. No one wants to fail to achieve a goal when it’s been posted online for the world to see, right?
Speaking of being accountable, find an “accountabilibuddy”
An “accountabilibuddy” is a buddy who holds you accountable. Someone who is going to call and wake you up in the morning to make sure you’re lacing up those shoes because they certainly didn’t wake up at 5am to run alone in the winter. You can’t flake on your “accountabilibuddy”, you just can’t! So, as long as you have one, you’ll be more inclined to wake up, show up and slay your training schedule!
