4 Easy Hikes at Mount Rainier

After a long race in Ashford, WA, you're simultaneously dying to get out to see the beautiful landscape around Mount Rainier while also wanting to crash and give your legs a rest. This is where easier and walkable hikes come into play. You've already accomplished a lot this weekend, no need to overdo it with an extensive day hike. Let your body rest in an easy, active recovery with these picturesque trails through Mount Rainier National Park.

Nisqually Vista Trail

This hike starts from the Henry M. Jackson Visitor Center at Paradise, which is located near the south entrance of the park. The Nisqually Vista Trail is a relatively easy hike that offers picture-worthy views of Mount Rainier and the Nisqually Glacier. The trail is paved and wheelchair accessible, making it a great option for families with young children or anyone who may have mobility restrictions.

Parking: There is a large parking lot at the visitor center, but if parking is full, you can try to park at the nearby Paradise Inn or in one of the overflow lots further down the road.

Grove of the Patriarchs

The Grove of the Patriarchs trailhead is located on the Stevens Canyon Road, about 6.5 miles east of the Paradise area. The Grove of the Patriarchs is a short, easy hike that takes you through a beautiful old-growth forest to see some of the largest and oldest trees in the park. The trail is well-maintained and has several footbridges that cross over the Ohanapecosh River.

Parking: There is a large parking lot at the trailhead, but it can fill up quickly during peak season. If the parking lot is full, you can try parking at the nearby Stevens Canyon Entrance or in one of the overflow lots further down the road.

Skyline Trail

The Skyline Trail starts from the Paradise area, near the Jackson Visitor Center. The Skyline Trail is a longer hike than the previous two, but still considered easy and highly recommended. The trail takes you through alpine meadows and offers incredible views of Mount Rainier and the surrounding area. It's important to note that the trail can be snowy and icy in the early season, so it's best to check the park's website for trail conditions before starting out.

Parking: Park at the Jackson Visitor Center. If this is full, try the nearby Paradise Inn or in one of the overflow lots further down the road.

Myrtle Falls Trail

Like the Skyline Trail, Myrtle Falls Trail also starts from the Paradise area! This short, sweet, and simple trail is a welcome walk for tired legs...especially legs that have just run a half marathon. This trail will take you to the base of Myrtle Falls, a beautiful waterfall located just off of Paradise Road. The trail is well-maintained and has several viewpoints of the waterfall along the way. It's a great option for families with young children or anyone who wants a quick and easy hike with a stunning payoff.

Parking: Park at the Jackson Visitor Center. If full, park at the nearby Paradise Inn or in one of the overflow lots further down the road.
