You really can't go wrong when it comes to culture in Split. There are boundless restaurants with dishes that bubble over with flavor, sensational markets that offer local, fresh foods and artisan crafts, and countless cultural sites — both historical and modern.
If you're looking to stretch your legs, take a walk around Riva Harbor. The white stone promenade is lined with tall palm trees and quaint fishing boats bob gleefully on the water. Among them, ritzy sailboats float proudly with tall masts, and the smell of Gregada — a traditional fish stew — wafts over the promenade and you suddenly feel hungry. Hey, maybe the fish in that dish were caught on one of the boats this morning.
From the promenade, you can walk over to the Green Market where artisanal foods and fresh produce abound. Grab some fresh fruit, smoked meats, aged cheeses, and a local bottle of wine. Once you've had your fill here, take the six minute walk west to the Split Fish Market; it's a real treat!
