The Best Campground at Joshua Tree National Park

Where is the best place to camp around Joshua Tree National Park? There are dozens of lodging options to choose from and you can't go wrong with most of them. Of the available options, we know that some folks prefer a fully stocked hotel experience, others like to "rough it" and camp in the backcountry, and then most of us fall somewhere in between.

Maybe you want to maximize your time outside while visiting Joshua Tree, but you've never camped in the desert before, so you don't know where to start. Inside the park, there are roughly 500 campsites available distributed among five different designated campgrounds: Black Rock, Cottonwood, Indian Cove, Jumbo Rocks, and Ryan Campgrounds. Though, if not reserved in advance, these spots may be unavailable during Joshua Tree National Park's busy season from November to May.

Camping inside the park means you have to bring in your own tent, sleeping bags, cookware, food, and other camp gear. And hey, maybe that's your cup of tea — it's often ours! But if you already have a busy trip planned with hiking, running, and other visits, you may want a slightly more pampered experience...something along the lines of a perfectly curated Airstream with enviable views and all the amenities.

Lucky for you, such a thing exists, and it's called AutoCamp

What is AutoCamp?

Go to sleep with AutoCamp and wake up in some of America's greatest landscapes. AutoCamp refurbishes vintage Airstream trailers to redefine camping comfort and splendor. These meticulously restored vintage trailers are equipped with all the modern conveniences you need for a comfortable stay. From plush bedding and high-quality linens to fully equipped kitchens and private bathrooms, every detail has been carefully considered to ensure a premium experience. With heating and air conditioning systems, you can enjoy year-round comfort regardless of the weather outside.

In addition to beautiful Airstreams, AutoCamp also offers luxury indoor suites and tent set-ups at various AutoCamp locations. At Joshua Tree, guests can choose a Vista X Suite which offers more space than the Airstream. Vista X Suites are indoor lodging options with an outdoor focus. A beautiful private bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living area make you feel like you're a real desert resident during your stay.
