At Vacation Races, we always aim to enhance your race experience. As we move forward, we want to share some important updates regarding features that have been part of our events.
Audio Race Guides:
In the past, we provided audio race guides to accompany your journey during our events. However, after careful consideration and feedback from our participants, we have decided to make some changes in this area.
One of the main reasons for this change is the low listenership of the audio race guides. We understand that participants have varying preferences when it comes to receiving race information, and our audio guides didn't resonate with as many people as we had hoped.
Of course, we will still provide you with ample informative content for whichever event you choose with us. In the meantime, you can always find the latest race details on our website or in the digital race guide (emailed to you before an event), ensuring you have all the information you need to participate in our events confidently.
The concept of an audio guide or podcast option isn't off the table forever, and as we hit pause, we will consider other ways to serve our athletes through auditory mediums.
Race Joy App:
Another change we're implementing is the discontinuation of access to the runner tracking app, Race Joy. We know that many of you used this app in the past, but we have received valuable feedback regarding its performance.
One of the most significant issues reported was the app's functionality. It was observed that Race Joy often couldn't work at our race locations because of limited cell service; a lack of cell service made it impossible for spectators to know the location of their runners and vice versa. Further, others expressed concern that the app drained their phone batteries throughout the course of the event, which could be especially problematic during a race when you need your device for communication and safety. We don't want to offer features that cause more headaches than solutions, and after careful review, we found that Race Joy was detracting from most of your experiences.
Finally, most smartphones or other social media apps allow users to share their location with certain contacts. Feedback from you all indicated that you were already utilizing these other avenues for participant tracking.
We take your feedback seriously, and we want to provide a seamless race experience. We believe discontinuing the use of Race Joy will lead to a more reliable and enjoyable experience for all participants.
Our deferral policies have changed over the years and we want to ensure everyone is aware of changes that have occurred over the last year.
If you've registered for one of our events and can no longer attend, deferring is a good option for you. It allows you to use your existing registration toward a future race.
- As of February 1st, 2023 we are updating our deferral process. After deferring from a race, your deferral will appear as a voucher credit in your RunSignup user profile and will automatically be applied to any future race registration. The process of deferment breaks into two main parts: deferring the race and applying the resulting voucher credit to a new race. This new system allows you to defer multiple races and the value of those races will stack as voucher credits in your RunSignup account. You can use your voucher credits for any event before the voucher expires.
- We have also reinstated the $20 deferral fee. This fee was previously removed during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to better serve our customers when a higher volume of individuals had to defer for health reasons.
Please see a full explanation of all deferral questions here.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we make these changes, and we look forward to continuing to provide you with memorable and enjoyable events.
Thank you for being a part of our community, and we can't wait to see you at our future events!
