Our Weather Policy
Vacation Races events occur rain or shine. It is only on rare occasions that weather conditions force a cancellation of our events. However, when severe weather conditions cause significant damage or alterations to the race course, we reserve the right to cancel the event, shorten the event, and/or hold runners until the weather improves. There will be no refunds given if an event is canceled due to weather.
Conditions that may result in an event being canceled or delayed include but are not limited to the following: severe heat, electrical storm, snowfall, tornadoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, flooding, fog, etc.
How We Decide Weather Related Cancellations
The most common danger that weather could pose is lightning. In the event of lightning and thunderstorms, we will monitor the location, frequency, and trajectory of the lightning. Even in the event of lightning, we will not cancel the race unless it poses an imminent threat to runner safety.
In instances of severe weather we will postpone the event while encouraging runners to get to a safe location, rather than cancel. We will continue to postpone the event based on lightning strikes until it is no longer reasonable to do so. For example, if the race is postponed too long and puts runners in other unsafe conditions like running in the dark or if we are no longer permitted to have roads closed, etc.
