FAQS

  • Choosing the right Vacation Race comes down to what kind of experience you’re looking for. We recommend considering a few key factors: location (which national park or destination excites you most), terrain (road vs. trail), elevation profile, distance, and time of year. Some courses are fast and paved, while others offer more rugged, adventurous trail running.

No matter which race you choose, you’ll be in a welcoming environment. We’re proud to be walker-friendly and offer generous course cutoffs so runners and walkers of all levels can feel confident on race day.

Not sure where to start? Take our Find My Next Race quiz to get a personalized recommendation based on your preferences.

  • You may defer your entry to any Vacation Races Half Marathon, Ultra, or Trailfest event. Deferrals are processed on the Let’s Do This registration platform. An administration fee of 50% of the 2026 registration fee will be charged.  You will pay this fee when you register for the 2026 race. The deferral will expire after the 2026 event, and you will not be able to defer your registration again.

  • You can transfer your race entry to another person on Lets Do This until the Wednesday before the event or in person at the expo. The original runner pays a $30 transfer fee. Only the race entry transfers; add-ons, such as merchandise or photos, do not, and these are non-refundable. The new runner will pay the current race price. No refunds are given for shipped items. If the new runner doesn’t complete their registration, no refund will be issued.

  • Yes. You can change distances within the same event (e.g., from 50M to 55K or 30K to Half Marathon) through your event dashboard. You’ll pay any difference in the increase. No refunds for the reduction of distance.

  • For each Vacation Race, we’ll send registered runners a dedicated email with recommended lodging options specific to that event, including areas close to the start line, finish line, and shuttle locations.

In the meantime, we highly recommend booking through HotelPlanner, our trusted lodging partner. HotelPlanner makes it easy to find and compare hotels near race locations, often with exclusive discounted rates for runners, friends, and family. With a simple booking experience and 24/7 customer support, it’s a great way to lock in a convenient and stress-free stay for race weekend.

We always recommend booking early—lodging near our events can fill up quickly!

  • Vacation Races are more than just a race—they’re a destination experience. Each event is intentionally designed to take you somewhere incredible, from the iconic landscapes of national parks to hidden gems you might not otherwise explore.

What sets us apart is the combination of scenery, community, and experience. You’ll run on thoughtfully designed courses that showcase the best of each location, supported by well-organized logistics, generous cutoffs, and a welcoming atmosphere for runners and walkers alike. Whether you’re chasing a PR or soaking it all in, you’ll feel part of something bigger than just race day.

We also believe race weekend should feel like a getaway. From pre-race expos to post-race celebrations and nearby adventures, Vacation Races is about turning your run into a full, memorable experience you’ll want to come back to year after year.
