Your gear & travel

You’ll arrange and pay for your own transport to the event location, lodge yourself and bring suitable attire for outdoor work in varying weather.

Event experience (optional)

Familiarity with Vacation Races or similar events helps, but isn’t mandatory.

What previous event or outdoor experience do you bring? 
Which races or park locations appeal most to you? 
Are you ready to commit to set dates (travel + work shifts) and self-manage logistics? We are really flexible on including you wherever it works best for you, but once you’re confirmed, event staffing depends on the confirmed team member. Please accept only assignments you are confident you can attend. Repeated cancellations or a failure to report for a confirmed assignment may affect future CPC opportunities.
One your application has been submitted, someone from our Operations team will review your submission. They will reach out to schedule an interview if they feel like it is a good fit with your experience and availability.

ROLES

Race Expo Jobs

Race Expo jobs require help loading and unloading equipment from trucks. In addition you will be responsible for one or more of the following jobs.

Setup/Teardown

This involves setting up and taking down tents, moving boxes, setting up signage and more. All CPC members will be expected to perform some heavy lifting and be on their feet all day.

CHECK-IN MANAGEMENT

This involves being savvy with a computer. You will be the first person to greet runners when they arrive and you will help identify the runner and secure their bib. Attention to detail is critical here. This work is normally all done the day before the race, and the hour before the race starts on race day.

Race Shirt Distribution

This position ensures all runners get the shirt they registered for.

Reusable Cup Distribution

This position distributes hydrapouches, but also ensures runners become familiar with our cup-free system.

Volunteer Management

This position will check in those who have volunteered and will help make sure those volunteers get a shirt and escorted to their CPC team for training.

Runner Services Booth

This position requires familiarity with the event in a big way. It also requires you to not give out bad information if you don’t have an answer. This is a critical position given to those with good judgement.

S’Mores Station

This positions includes all the chocolate you can eat :) You will need to setup the station, start the fire, and help people make a s’more. The hardest part will be telling the kids to stop eating so many s’mores.

Race Day Jobs

CPC roles typically require all day Friday and can include some or all of the day Saturday. CPC members can earn the ability to run the races, and we are very flexible with how you want to plan out your days. If selected for CPC, you’ll work with the race leads to figure out your event schedule ahead of time.

Drop Bag/Gear Check Management

This involves helping people secure their belongings and helping people find their stuff after the race is over.

Parking and Shuttle Support

This position helps to manage vehicle and runner traffic as they arrive at expo and/or race morning parking. You may be helping direct cars to parking areas, directing runners to shuttles, guiding drivers to designated runner drop-off or a combination of each. Hi-viz vests, radios and parking wands are supplied on-site.

Finish Line Management

From mixing electrolytes to setting up the finisher chute to handing out food and medals at the finish line, this job is the center of the action on race day. It is a lot to set up and there is a flurry of activity during the race, but there’s nothing better than welcoming in our athletes as they complete the race.

Manage Aid Stations

From operating an aid station yourself to supervising several aid stations, this is one of the most critical positions on the race production crew.

AWARDS

This position will help organize the awards and will help hand the out at the awards ceremony. Attention to detail is extremely important here.

Zero Waste

We need people in charge of our zero waste efforts. This includes setting up trash cans, monitoring them to ensure participants are sorting their waste correctly, and helping do the final sort after the event. One of the highest paid positions and requires a passion for diverting waste from landfills.

The CPC is named after the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a public work relief program that operated from 1933 to 1942, whose labor in building the park system still create fruits for us today.
